    Importing Chivo… Part One

    August 7, 2019

The time has come. Chivo is ready to become a full-on Costa Rican car! One of the questions about moving to Costa Rica that we see the most on chat boards and Facebook groups, is whether to bring a car down or purchase one here. There’s more debate to that question than whether the dress…

    The Cost of Convenience

I have a confession to make. I haven’t taken nail polish off my toes in at least seven years. Don’t worry – there’s not an inch-thick layer of polish or seven-year-old color on there. It’s just that one of the luxuries of that I enjoyed before moving to Costa Rica was regular pedicures.  It was…

The vacation feeling of moving to Costa Rica has worn off. Nikk and I are happily settling into life here. It is shocking how quickly the days and weeks go by. Every Friday we find ourselves saying how we can’t believe another week has passed. Days are filled with working across from each other at…

    Another Weekend, Another Beach

I know, I know… another post about a beach. I can’t help it though! That’s why we moved to Costa Rica, right?! If you ask 100 people what the most beautiful beach in Costa Rica is, you’ll probably get 80 different answers. During all of our research before moving here, one beach that consistently came…

Day Trip to Playas del Coco

    June 17, 2019

The problem with moving to a country where tourism is so popular, is that the places that everyone raves about as “must visit” are so… touristy. I get it – most people are only here for a few days or a week. So those tourist-heavy places are great. But for us, we continue to find…

First Week In our New House

The vacation feel is starting to wear off – slowly. And that’s such a good thing! Nikk and I keep wondering aloud to each other how this is our real life, how we get to stay here and not go back to the “real world,” and – of course – how lucky we are. We…

It’s been about two weeks since we finished the big drive. Bosco is still hesitant to get in the Jeep. I can’t say I blame him. As we settle into new life here (more posts about that to come!), Nikk and I can’t help but reflect on the drive. Some memories are full of joy…

Notice anything different?? EBR got a facelift! After a lot of thinking, Nikk and I have decided that we really love this whole blogging thing, and we’d like to keep moving with it. As such, we’ve decided to be a little (really, only a little!) more professional, and we’ve invested in a more robust hosting…

Ahhh… finally! We don’t have to get in the car first thing in the morning! It felt sooooo good to know we were settled for at least a few days. Our first day in Tamarindo, we both had to get back to work. We had taken two weeks vacation time to make the drive, and…

Bosco was not happy when we got in the car in Managua. For the past couple of days when we go to get in the car, he basically digs his little paws into the ground and uses all 17 lbs. to stop about 5 feet from the Jeep and not move. He’s usually so good…

About Us

¡Buenas! We are Nikk & Shannon. After living in Costa Rica for a year, we are ready for our next adventure. We’ve spent the last three years building out Tortuga – our 2022 Jeep Gladiator – and now we are ready to hit the road.

Join us as we travel the entire PanAmerican Highway (and then some). Along the way, we’ll find the best beers and the best beaches… and then repeat!
